Components built by Pioneer in the 1970s and early 1980s are still around today, giving pleasure to a new generation of music listeners. This site is dedicated to the era of silver finish Pioneer stereo components from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Aesthetically, pioneer’s components from this silver era period were distinguished by their handsome brushed aluminum front panels, solid machined aluminum knobs, toggle switches and push buttons, and beautiful walnut veneer with solid walnut trim. Quality of the electronics inside were such that this equipment is still being listened to today.
I have start collecting new Pioneers by Norway catalogue 77 / 78. Receivers of x50 serie are lovely and really bullet proof made – over engineered. This happen by accident, because I’ve seen speakers on eBay for nice price and in nice condition and I thought why not. Good opportunity to start collection something new and nice as I always admire x50 receiver serie.

At the moment I have only receiver Pioneer SX-550 and speakers Pioneer HPM-40. Speakers need some TLC – change cap (4.7 uF???), add more Monacor speaker foam inside, speaker cable and sort out dust cap. Receiver needs proper cleaning, new bulb, change few caps, solder joints and probably new relay.
Receiver is sitting on old Sony CD player.
